PRODUCT AND UX DESIGN
In the highly competitive financial industry, delivering an exceptional user experience (UX) is paramount. As a Product Designer at USAA, my role is to bridge the gap between user needs and business goals, ensuring that our members have the best possible experience within our unique referral model.
My work spanned from user research to shipped mobile-first product design. With our unique referral model, creating a seamless experience for our members was the main challenge. Design decisions had to be informed by understanding where and why members were exiting the experience. Working with the design research team, I conducted in member interviews and had an opportunity to learn from our members directly.
Having business goals in mind and direct communication with members allowed me to synthesize our research data with a holistic view of the member journey. I facilitated multiple HCD (Human Centered Design) workshops and strategic alignment workshops with business and design to ensure the member journey and business goals had synergy.
Utilizing agile methodologies and working along side one other designer, we completed the redesign of 6 investment pages. The result of our research and workshops informed design decisions that led to a 14% increase in revenue in 6 months.
DESIGN SYSTEMS AND UX DESIGN
As a designer on the Optic Nerds team I had the opportunity to support other teams through my contributions to the design system. Easing friction and reducing the amount of time spent on repetitive activities that drain creative flow is important to me. I applied my UX brain to the design system that myself and my team turned to everyday in Figma. I participated in and contributed to meetings that helped support the development of the design system.
While working on a project I noticed a pattern that was causing friction for myself and other designers on my team. We were transitioning to a design system that incorporated content and there were some hiccups along the way.
I created a solution that reduced the amount of time spent going into the design library to build pages. After sharing this with my team, I brought it to the design systems team and it was ultimately added to the design system as a resource for all designers at USAA to utilize. The template tool allowed designers to reduce the amount of time they spent on repetitive processes. Just prior to the end of my time at USAA, I was involved in a team project of adding accessibility annotations to the template. This would bring greater ease to designers as well as bridge gaps between design, content, and accessibility. Ultimately this contributes to increased consistency that helps build trust with our members.
